About FSA

Introduction

The Florida Student Association (FSA) stands as a testament to unity, representation, and student empowerment within the State University System of Florida. Established in 1976, FSA is a non-profit corporation that brings together the student body presidents from each university under the State University System of Florida. Our mission is to advocate for the interests and concerns of approximately 400,000 students, ensuring that their voices are heard and represented at all levels of decision-making.

Our Formation

The inception of the Florida Student Association, Inc. (FSA) dates back to 1976, marked by its establishment under the "Florida Not For Profit Corporation Act." This legal framework laid the groundwork for FSA's commitment to serve the collective interests of the student community in Florida's universities.

Representation and Governance

In accordance with a statute enacted by the Florida state legislature, each state university is mandated to have a "student government." Central to this structure is the role of the "student body president," who embodies the collective aspirations and concerns of the student population.

FSA's board of directors comprises the Student Body President from each state university's student government. This assembly of leaders collaboratively exercises the corporation's powers and diligently manages its affairs to ensure the fulfillment of FSA's objectives.

Our Impact

Through advocacy, collaboration, and active engagement, FSA strives to make a meaningful impact on the educational experiences and opportunities available to students across the State University System of Florida. We work tirelessly to foster an environment that prioritizes student well-being, academic excellence, and equitable access to resources and opportunities.
